Malta’s Top Raffa Bowls Player – Mr David Farrugia

Mr David Farrugia started his sporting career in Raffa Bowls in 1990 at the European Championship held in Warsaw, Poland, which was his first international experience with the national team. Since then, Farrugia took part in World Championships, Mediterranean Games, Small Nations Games, and other international tournaments with great success.

Farrugia participated in the International Open Tournament held in Turkey in November 2014 together with his brother Mr Reno Farrugia. Victories over France, Turkey, Algeria, Latvia, Egypt, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Slovakia in the first phase of the competition earned the Maltese duo a berth in the semi-finals where they knocked out Japan. In addition to having beaten Turkey in the opening round, the Farrugia brothers again underlined their top billing as they outclassed the hosts 12-3 in a one-sided final.

In April 2015, Farrugia competed in the World Raffa Championships in Rome accompanied by the Malta Raffa Bowls Club President Mr Adrian Sciberras and his coach Mr Santolo Nunziata. In this Championship, not less than 35 countries participated, divided into eight groups of four or five players in each group. Farrugia boasts to be victorious against both the Latvian and the Russian player.
